Sian McDermotts Questions:

Question 1. During licensing, design or during periodic dam safety reviews the Consequence of the Failure of a dam is evaluated. If it is established that the failure would result in loss of life, extensive damage to property or the environment, the preparation of an Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP)is mandatory.

Question 2. After the EPP is prepared, it is occasionally tested to make sure all stake holders in the plan, residents downstream of the dam etc, are aware of their responsibilities and the procedures to be followed during an emergency.

Question 3.The licensing procedures and dam safety reviews and legislation apply to all dam owners.

Question 4. Public is appraised of the possible risk during open house information sessions and hearings, where required.

Question 5. Inundation maps showing the areas at risk are a part of the open house process and information sessions. People at risk are also contacted during the testing of EPPs, and are therefore aware of the risk.
