About the National Performance of Dams Program

Welcome to the National Performance of Dams Program (NPDP). Formally launched in 1994, the NPDP is an effort to establish within the dam engineering and safety community the ability to learn from the in-service performance of dams, supporting improvements in dam design, operation, engineering, and public policy.

Our Mission

To be the leading technical resource for information on the performance of dams,
supporting dam safety, engineering, and public policy.

Data on the performance of dam systems can provide valuable insights to the adequacy or inadequacy of dam designs, operating procedures, etc. The ability to develop a clear, balanced understanding of the structural and operational integrity of dam systems requires information on events involving successful or satisfactory performance as well as cases when failures have occurred.
